J.M. GANDON "Les Pièces" V.20 MAGNUM

This bottle represents the literal birth of a new cult favorite. While winemaker Victor Gandon's father historically sold the estate's grapes, Victor took the reins to launch his own tiny, ultra-natural label, with the 2020 vintage (V.20) marking his very first release. Sourced from "L’Aubière," a microscopic 0.31-hectare single plot planted in 1973 and 1974 in Branscourt, planted along a riverbank to protect against frost. The grapes dig into unique clay-sands packed with ancient marine fossils. Fermented naturally with native yeasts in oak barrels, it is bottled completely unfiltered, unfined, without added sugar (Brut Nature), and with minimal sulfur. Only 100 magnums were produced for this entire vintage.

Why we love it: This wine pours with a striking, light copper hue in the glass. The nose is incredibly generous and expressive—exploding with crushed red apples, poached pears, and fresh bread dough, seamlessly interlocked with star anise, baking spices, and light woody notes.

The vibe: It's a backyard party, for no particular reason other than to see good friends. You have a taco bar with carnitas, fresh salsa guacamole and a fire ready for when it gets chilly.
