DOMAINE MEA 'Bouzy Rouge'

For over 50 years, the family grew and harvested red grapes to make still red wine strictly for blending into their rosé Champagnes. However, the exceptional warmth and pristine quality of recent harvests convinced winemakers Sophie and Franck to let this fruit stand completely on its own, creating a facinating twist for champagne lovers. Made from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from two tiny, historic Grand Cru parcels, Les Gouttes d'Or (planted in 1963) and Les Chaudettes (planted in 1953, this wine is an absolute rarity. They use 50% whole-cluster fermentation and splits the aging process. Half of the wine rests in terracotta to preserve the pure, crunchy grape energy, while the other half matures in oak barrels.

Why we love it: This wine behaves like a brilliant, ultra-precise Burgundy but retains the signature chalky mineral tension that only Champagne's soils can provide. This is a rare, still red wine that's fragrant and deeply floral with red cherry, wild strawberry and hints of crushed stone.
