JUNE 2025
This month we dive deep in to the Cote des Blancs with Pertois Lebrun. Brothers Antoine and Clement are changing the landscape of Chardonnay with their farming and winemaking practices. The brothers were not born in to champagne, they grew up in the south of France but when their Aunt was ready to retire they were the only family members to be in a position to take over. They uprooted their lives and moved up to take over the family business.
Their first order of business was to convert all of their vineyards to organic farming and to begin to vinify and bottles all of their plots separately. This allowed them to lean each of their nuances, farm and harvest each plot according to their needs and begin to make champagnes of unique and exhilarating quality.
These champagnes all display the precision that you would expect from Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, but with more body, class and style than is typical of the region. The lower yields from the organic farming methods provide a higher concentration of aromatics that allow more than just a typical laser beam of Chardonnay. While all that structure is there it is robed in the aromatics that are more and more becoming associated with high quality non-conventional farmed vineyards in Champagne.
We can't wait for you to dig in to these bottles. Everytime we pop open a bottle we are reminded why we love them so much. The brothers are great, their story is great and their champagnes are great.
