This month features one of the most famous single vineyards in Champagne and one of the most top-secret projects, all in one shipment. 

Meet Pertois-Lebrun

It wasn’t predetermined from birth that brothers Clément and Antoine would be at the helm of the family business. In fact they grew up in Provence, far from the heritage of wine growing they carry on now. The brothers grandparents Paul Pertois and Françoise Lebrun were the third generation of the families to grow grapes but the first to start making wine in 1955. They passed their plots on to one of their three daughters, Odile, who ran the estate for many years.

The fifth generation offered only one possibility and in 2004 Clément joined his Aunt to begin his journey as a winemaker in Champagne. His brother Antoine joined in 2013 and since then they have been working side by side to continue the family heritage while imbuing it with their sensibilities and their passion to show the terroir of their plots. 

The brothers have 44 individual plots spread over 9.5 hectares in five villages, all of which are Grand Cru. All of their vines are planted to Chardonnay and their organic farming efforts in the vineyard and cellar are focused expressing the elegance and finesse of the grape all while showcasing the uniqueness of each plot. 

The work in the cellars is as meticulous as it is in the vineyard. The pressing of each plot is done separately and only the cuvee of each press is kept to ensure the best concentration of flavors, sugars and acids. 

These wines are worth seeking out. They display all the precision that you would expect from Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs with more body, class and style than is typical of the region.

The Wine

Pertois-Lebrun wines display the precision you would expect from Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, but with more body, class and style than is typical of the region. Be sure to get yourself an extra bottle from our Shop.

Les Chetillons is a sultry, 100% Chardonnay from the Cote des Blancs, which comes from three different parcels in the plot (two down the slope and one mid slope), in the best part of the vineyard. Why we love it: The weight, density and concentration of this bottle is unmatched. Only 1,650 bottles were made and it is sold out everywhere. We saved the last bottles for you!   The vibes: Dinner with friends with oysters and a squeeze of lemon.

Meet Huit Clos

Huit Clos, which translates to Behind Closed Doors, is a producer we met many years back, before this wine was ever released, and formed a friendship. There was never talk of this project or working together until one day we were invited to a little town that we had never heard of for lunch.

We arrived at the most amazing property that had been beautifully restored and had ponds, fountains, sheep, donkeys, and acres of stunningly gorgeous land. We visited vineyards and over lunch tasted this wine called Huit Clos, tough it hadn’t even been labeled yet.

A true family affair, three cousins from a very well-known and well-connected Champagne family, pooled their considerable resources to create a brand that represents their vision of what the region has to offer and wanted to keep their first foray into winemaking as quiet as possible.

The Wine

Collection 2 is 100% Meunier from a village called Bonneuil along the river Marne and has the deepest hue in the glass and amazing Meunier punch in the glass. Why we love it: We were, and continue to be, blown away by this wine with its slight citrus notes and distinct notes of hay. Under 2,000 bottles were produced, with only 200 bottles coming to the U.S. We're so excited to get our hands on some to share with you.  The vibe: Date night at home with candles burning, vinyl spinning, and arancini and a classic margherita pizza on the dinner table.
